Cardboard Carnival

Caine's Arcade in Los Angeles, California is an arcade where all of the machines are completely made out of cardboard. Caine's awesome idea was composed into a
short documentary that inspired our Bruiser Campers to make a Cardboard Carnival of their own! The cool thing about the carnival? It was made for the Kaleidoscope Campers to play with!

So, Bruiser Campers spent one day preparing for the carnival.  They made their own games, and set up their own ticket booth and prize counter.
Then the next day, they opened up the carnival
for the Kaleidoscope campers to enjoy!

The music, games, and laughter out on the front lawn were so immense, that all of us here in the office were lured outside to observe the festivities! We loved watching the smiling faces of the girls with their goody bags, who came over to show the prizes they had won at the carnival. Some campers didn't want to leave when it was time to go!

It was such a fun day that the campers were talking about it up until the end of the session. I think everyone at camp agrees that this was a great idea for a camp activity, and we can't wait to see what Bruiser Camp comes up with next!

See more pictures from the carnival on our Facebook page!

Bruiser Girl Fever in the Office

Today in the Camp Office, we had time to color a few Bruiser Girls for ourselves. Here's how they turned out!

We also have a few Disney themed Bruiser Girls... can you tell which princesses we colored?

What Do I Need to Bring?!

Here at the Camp Office, we know that the first day of a new camp week is very exciting, and in that excitement you sometimes accidentally leave things at home! But no worries, we've got you covered. Here in this post, we've assembled a list of all the things your camper will need to bring for his or her camp.

Camps Included: Rowing Camp, Sailing Camp, K'Nex and Lego Design, Bruiser Camp, Camp Kaleidoscope, Bolden's Theatre Workshop, Babysitter's Training, and Ready to Read.

Rowing Camp: Campers must be able to swim. You will also need to wear a t-shirt, shorts, and tennis shoes. A water bottle is a must, and bring sunscreen!

Sailing Camp: All campers must be able to swim, and bring their own life jacket. Don't forget your sunscreen and a water bottle!

K'Nex and Lego Design: You don't need to bring anything except yourself and a smile!

Bruiser Camp: Wear comfortable shoes (no flip flops!), and bring a bathing suit and towel each day.
(You might need to bring additional things depending on the activities for the day.)

Camp Kaleidoscope: Swimsuit and a towel everyday! Also, bring comfortable shoes!

Bolden's Theatre Workshop: Bring your dancing shoes!

Babysitter's Training: You don't need to bring anything except yourself and a smile!

Ready to Read: All supplies are provided, but you can bring your own if you would like.

We hope this helps you prepare for next week's camps!

Bruiser Camp's First Day

Another week of camp is underway here at GPS, which means we have even more girls doing even more activities around the school. One thing that we wanted to share with you was an activity that Bruiser Campers created yesterday. If you are walking between the Frierson Theatre and the Main Gym, you will definitely be able to see these unique creations that the campers made.

Mrs. Archambault gave groups of campers sheets with all the camps going on around GPS this summer. Then, with whatever sheet they had, the girls drew what they thought was going on in each camp. The figure in the top left picture shows a girl at Sailing Camp, while the girl on the top right is building and designing a structure with legos, like in our K'Nex and Lego Design Camp. The bottom picture also shows a softball player, an actress from Mrs. Bolden's Theatre Workshop, and a girl filming something for Digital Storytelling Camp.

If you are coming by the school sometime this week, come check out these figures, and all of the others hanging in the passageway from the gym to the theatre!

One Session Down!

Session one of Camp Kaleidoscope officially came to a close this afternoon after the campers put on a stomping performance, dancing to several different country tunes. Like we said in our last post, this Wednesday was Western Wear day at camp. Since today was the last day of the Saddle Up session, why not reminisce through everyone's favorite thing to look at: pictures!

To check out more pictures from Western Wear day, and the whole first session, check out the album on our Facebook page!

Camp So Far...

We are halfway done with the first session of Camp Kaleidoscope, and it's been a blast! The theme for this session has been 'Saddle Up!' The girls have been making crafts related to, and learning about the wild, wild west. By the time this session is over, all the girls will be little cowgirls! Well, they might actually be cowgirls a lot sooner than that, because tomorrow is 'Western Wear' day at camp!

Along with Camp Kaleidoscope, American Girl Camp had a great first session! Campers made clothes for their dolls, played games, and made crafts while learning about the famous American Girl dolls like Addy, Samantha, and Felicity. Each day was centered around a new doll, so there were always new activities in store.

A few other camps, like GeePS and Volleyball camp, have started this week as well. There are still a lot of camps open for registration! Some camps beginning next week are Basketball and Softball camp, Cooking Camp with Chef Nigel (for Girls AND Boys!!), and the first Session of Bruiser Camp! There is still a whole lot of summer left, as well as a whole lot of camps. So, if you still have campers looking for an awesome way to spend the summer, register now on our website!

Bruiser Girl Takes on Broadway

Bruiser Girl recently attended a production of Broadway's: The Lion King. The play was fantastic, and it got her excited for a camp opportunity at GPS this summer!

Mrs. Bolden's Smash Hit Theatre Workshop is back! This Summer Theatre Workshop is for actors, singers, and dancers of all ages – ranging from 9-year-olds to college students of any skill level. The theme is “You Can’t Stop the Beat", and all who attend this workshop will re-create the Hairspray choreography from the previous GPS/McCallie smash spring musical. Fresh scenes, songs, and dances each session will culminate in a final performance: “Mrs. Bolden’s Smash Hit Broadway Explosion 2013!”

You still have time to register at http://www.gps.edu/page.cfm?p=569!

It's Finally Friday!

Another school week has passed by, meaning it is one week closer to summer break. The sun was shining, the breeze was blowing, and it was an all around beautiful day on campus. So, Bruiser Girl spent her day here at school!

She spent time admiring the blooming flowers....

Visited with some students throughout the day....

.... and she ended up spending some time with Mrs. Leffew in the Summer Camp Office! Although they got a lot of work done, I think it's safe to say that they might need to do a little Spring Cleaning before they leave for the weekend!

Meet Bruiser Girl!

Spring Break brought many adventures for all of the
girls at GPS. Planes traveled to beaches, amusement parks, and various other vacation spots around the country for a well welcomed break from school.

With the arrival of Spring came the introduction of
a soon to be familiar face to the GPS community.
Bruiser Girl, first introduced at the GPS Winter Camp, was spotted in several locations over the break. Just like the girls at the school she represents, Bruiser Girl was ready to take a break and show everyone the places where she traveled. Spotted on this plane, Bruiser Girl jetted away to her different Spring Break destinations.

First on the list was Charleston, South Carolina.

Bruiser Girl was spotted helping out with a local walk to help fight Multiple Sclerosis. She was caught making sandwiches for the participants, as well as hanging around one of the support vehicles promoting the event.

Bruiser Girl's second stop was in Isle of Palms, South Carolina. She caught some rays on the beach and got plenty of much needed relaxation after helping out with Charleston's MS Walk.

After her time in the sun was done, Bruiser Girl headed back home. Although she returned sad that her vacation was over, she was also excited for things still to come! With only two months left until school is out and summer begins, Bruiser Girl is starting to prepare for GPS Summer Camp. If you have a young one coming to camp this summer, tell them to keep an eye out for the newest addition to the Bruiser family! Although, you may want to keep an eye on her as well! You never know where she might travel to next...
