Wow! This summer has been a big celebration already! We are in our third
week of camp, which means that one session of camp Kaleidoscope is
over. Our theme, Superheroes, was a super-fun time. The girls in camp
spent their mornings learning about historical heroes, making super hero
related crafts, and learning how to make chemical reactions with
'superhero' ingredients (or vinegar and baking soda!) We had a dress up
day for girls to dress like their favorite superhero. There were several
Superman, Batman, and Spiderman t-shirts. We also had several
girls who dressed up as Elsa from the latest Disney hit, Frozen. The session ended with a finale show that Batman and Superman would have been proud of. For more pictures of Superhero Day, and other days from session one, check out Our Facebook Page!

We're Back!
Learning the Macarena! |
Jess was excited to greet the campers! |
The 40th year of GPS Summer Camp is now underway! We're only two days in, but the girls are already having a blast! We saw so many girls walking up with huge smiles on their faces on Monday morning. One camper walked up to me with a huge smile and said "I love GPS camp!", and she continued to tell me how much she was looking forward to swimming. Her mother explained how she asked her daughter about camp, and how she begged her to go to Camp Kaleidoscope! (Another reason why we love our campers!)

A sample superhero clip. |
Yesterday, the girls really dug into the 'Superhero' theme for session one during their classes. They learned how to 'freeze-dance' during dance (and they learned the Macarena!) In morning mash-up, they read a story with Mrs. Jackson. In science, the girls mixed together super hero ingredients to cause a chemical reaction! Then in art, the campers made super hero hair clips with some classic catch phrases.
Not to mention lunch, pool time, and plenty of dancing!

We are so excited to be back at camp, and we can't wait to see what the summer has in store!

Cardboard Carnival
Caine's Arcade in Los Angeles, California is an arcade where all of the machines are completely made out of cardboard. Caine's awesome idea was composed into a short documentary that inspired our Bruiser Campers to make a Cardboard Carnival of their own! The cool thing about the carnival? It was made for the Kaleidoscope Campers to play with!
So, Bruiser Campers spent one day preparing for the carnival. They made their own games, and set up their own ticket booth and prize counter.
Then the next day, they opened up the carnival
for the Kaleidoscope campers to enjoy!
The music, games, and laughter out on the front lawn were so immense, that all of us here in the office were lured outside to observe the festivities! We loved watching the smiling faces of the girls with their goody bags, who came over to show the prizes they had won at the carnival. Some campers didn't want to leave when it was time to go!
It was such a fun day that the campers were talking about it up until the end of the session. I think everyone at camp agrees that this was a great idea for a camp activity, and we can't wait to see what Bruiser Camp comes up with next!
See more pictures from the carnival on our Facebook page!
